Fake accounts were created and dangerous links were posted by these accounts on branded pages such as US National Football. A criminal gand Russian Business Network is being suspected behind the spreading of these links. This gang is allaged for stealing personal information of Internet users.
One of the biggest security company Trend Micro found that this dangerous link was for the "Bring the N.F.L. to Los Angeles" page. After this incident, this page has been removed.
Trend Micro has claimed that other pages might also spreading this dangerous link, they might be even hidden or by mistake Facebook users might have spread it.
When a Facebook user clicks on this link, a type of Trojan virus gets installed in the computer of user. After this, the virus steals the personal information of the user whether it is loging credentials of a website or your sensitive bank account details.
This virus can also find and steal your login details, doesn't matter whether you have stored it in your computer or not. This virus is actually a keylogger which logs pressed keys on computer, including your username, password and anything you type.
This virus keep waiting in your computer until it gets what it is looking for, personal details. For example if you haven't logged into any website nor you have accessed Internet banking service provide by your bank, then in this case this virus will keep waiting until you do so. Once you enter your user ID and password, this virus will log it and send it to the people who are distributing it to steal details.
